Just rebuilt a 312 everything is fine except a I developed an oil leak that comes out the out side bolt of the oil pump. It is not a bad leak but a constant drip . It developed after about 50 miles. the first time and now right away after I change the gasket. I have replaced the gasket twice and the same thing happens. everything is torque to spec
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Joe.

As usual I misread the post. You may need to take the cover plate off and check it for warping. Sometimes they are just not flat anymore. You can check it with a steel straight edge. If you have a belt sander a gentle pass will show high and low spots. Chuck

There's about 3 places the leak could be coming from. As mentioned it could be the cover plate leaking, or the mounting gasket at the block or the large compression nut going into the pump from the pan. It's possible the compression nut seal was damaged on installation. It needs to be done carefully to avoid distorting it on assembly. Edit- Forgot to mention that the pump housing could have been cracked at some point. Check it carefully.

Hope you didn't do the jamb nut up too tight, that can be as much of a problem as too loose.

Everyone, thanks for the suggestions, I took it off again 4th time and checked everything and it was OK. I called Melling and they feel that it may be a casting porosity defect. It is leaking from the blind drilled & tapped hole. They have seen it before. Lets see when the new pumps comes.
Thanks Again
