I am building a hot rod with a trans adapter that allows me to put an early 1939-50 top-loader 3 speed in. Do I need an special pilot busing for the snout of the trans.? If so, where can I get one?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The passenger car Y bushing will fit the early Ford pilot shaft.

On a Ford to Ford you shouldn't. Ford used the same pilot diameter from '32 to the 90's. Check to be sure the pilot portion of the input is seating properly into your pilot bushing. In other words "dummy" everything up, before you put your disc and pressure plate on the flywheel, it should be in the bushing by about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch. What kind of car are you building?
