I have been taking my time installing a 292 that was supposedly rebuilt when I bought it (less than 100 miles). When I drove 4 hrs to pick it up at his friends barn, he forgot to bring paper work of the rebuild. Now I am on trust, but the gaskets look so new still so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

ANYWAY, back to my question....

I have finally got to start my engine, and have let it idle until it warms up and started to notice it smokes out of the passenger side exhaust. White smoke but doesnt smell sweet. it does not do it at a cold idle either, only after warmed up. I am thinking it COULD still be a head gasket, but I am unsure. Does anyone have any ideas on where I should start to look?

A pre-thank you for your help to gents!

Chris:

I would first verify that the head bolts are not mixed up. The end bolts on the top row are about 1/4" longer than the other 3. If the longer bolts are installed in the center 3 holes, they will probably bottom out and not clamp the gasket properly. After verifying their position, retorque the head bolts. I know, the rocker arms and exhaust manifolds are in the way, but the bolts really need to be retorqued.
