Hi All

trying ( and failing!) to get the light switch out of my 59 Galaxie dash. The knob spins but doesnt seem to want to come off and doesn't appear to have a grub screw like the washer knob has. But the knob surely has to come off to allow it to be withdrawnfrom behind the dash?

is there a trick to this job that I missing? I don't want to break it

cheers, Taff

Not sure about 59, but most of my older Fords had a button on the switch behind the dash you have to depress to pull the knob out. Probably on the top of the switch.

That is correct. There should be a spring loaded button to depress while you pull the knob and shaft out.Sometimes if they have not been out for a long time they are stuck(the shaft not the button) and you will have to work a bit to get it out.Push in on the knob while depressing the button sometimes helps.Ihave never tried a shot of WD-40 along the shaft but it might help if really stuck.

Oldcarmark is right. Every Ford I have worked on from '55 to '56 had the button on the top of the switch behind the dash. I'm betting the later ones do as well.
