My Best Gasket set came with what appear to be two oil pump to oil pick up tube seals. One is straight cut and is the same as the one that came with the pump. The other is bevel cut. Is this just and alternative or is the bevel cut one supposed to go somewhere else? Thanks.
PS While we're at this I also have three seals of which one should be for the oil pan to oil pick tube. One is clear plastic, one is a fibrous material and the third (from a separate set) is copper. All three fit the oil pick up tube but they also fit the oil pan plug. Which is which? Also does the oil pick up seal go between the nut and the pan or inside the pan. The picture in the shop manual isn't definitive.

Sooo I found these in a search. Seems the bevel cut seals are Ford originals. Still don't know which is better. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NOS-1954-1962-FORD-LINCOLN-MERCURY-OIL-PAN-PUMP-INLET-TUBE-SEAL-292-312-/190835841819?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c6eb3db1b

hi Mark
i think the bevel cut one makes more sense, if you look into the pump there is a corresponding bevel. although i don't think it will make much diference when you start tightening the nut. square cut easier/cheaper?
re the washers, all the info i have shows it under the nut ie outside the pan. copper, fibre or nylon i don't realy know i used the copper one and used pipe seal on the threads.
if the washer is used inside the pan it could mess the alignment of the tube to pump?
going back to the bevel cut seal in the pump i looked at three pick up tubes and thought they were all a tad short. i believe the tube should go past that bevel in the pump by about 1/2". if the tube is too short there is a possibility that the rubber seal could partially close down the end of the tube?? i'll have to experiment
just some thoughts to play with
