pulling a 272 engine?

How hard is it to pull a 272 engine physically, I'm limited to my physical abilities so I wouldn't want to start something I couldn't finish.
As far as the motor itself . how much vertical height is need to pull the motor. I don't have about four feet to work with.

Th reason for asking, I need the engine out to clean up and paint my firewall ,also clean and paint the motor plus have some seals replaced .

Assuming you are going to use engine hoist, remove hood, radiator and grill, this provides a path to guide engine forward and out if straight up lift is not possible.

I recently installed a 272 in a '55 Fairlane to uses as a mockup for exhaust etc. while I rebuild the 292. On my car the grill, lower apron, upper rad support and radiator are out but the hood is on. I hooked the hoist right down to the block and it went in fairly easily with the hood on. I removed all peripherals such as exhaust manifolds, generator and fuel pump. This particular engine was out of a pickup so I had the oil pan, oil pump and bell housing off as well. If you are not able to separate these parts, including the trans then the hood may have to come off. As you probably know you will need help with the hood.
I too usually do everything all by myself but it is really nice if you have some help when you pull the engine to watch for things that get hung up.

You asked about pulling your 272 engine. The Yblock is no lightweight. Figure 600/650 lbs. If the FOM is still attached add another 200 lbs.

The engine hoist you use will be rated at say 2000 lbs which sounds like enough. BUT, that is at the shortest extension of the arm ( lowest total lift ) so with the reach you will need your hoist is now rated at 1000 lbs. I strongly advise a tilt/leveler to adjust front rear tilt of engine to maneuver it out.

Now with your engine/FOM hanging 4 feet in the air you will have to either roll the engine hoist forward or roll your car backward. After that you need a place to put the engine to work/clean it.

I don't mean to discourage you but go into this with an understanding of what is involved. Pete
