Can anyone tell me the correct or a good rear gas shock to use on a 1956 Mercury Convertible & also allow you to remove the tire if necessary with-out taking the shock down?Thank you in advance. Ron.

I just put KYB- KG5517 on my 55 Vicky with lowered leaf springs, used the shock extenders, best ride I've had since I built the car, and the tires are off and on real easy. Summit has the springs and extenders. Gary

I've got a '54 Merc convertible and faced the same problem. I found this seller on epay who had the right shocks, but I didn't save the label on the box. I believe they are Gabriel and the number on my shock is 739034. The vendor at this link was very responsive and the price was good.
Oops, I can't seem to get the link to post. PM me and I can send the link.
Note: when fully extended mine measure 21", not including the mounting studs at each end.

I used these on my lowered Vicky and they solved the tire removal problem. Should work for you too. Chuck

I did a little digging and contacted the people who sold me the shocks I've got on my '54. They said they stock #739034. Do an eBay search for item # 400531722748 and a listing for 55-56 Cadillac rear shocks will show up. These work fine on my car.
