So on start up lately, my oil pressure has read higher than normal. I drive around for 5 minutes and then it goes down to normal range. Why is this?

Heres what I have:

1964 F100 stock 292 Y, never rebuilt

Year old oil pump with maybe 1000 miles on it

10W30 oil and change oil about every 2000 miles

SW oil pressure gauge

On a cold motor and after warm up, once the choke has been depressed, the pressure stays at 55-60 (thats where it is with the choke engaged) My normal range is 35-45. Then it wont drop until I drive around for a while. Should I be worried?

Oil pressure is almost always higher on a cold start due to the variable viscosity of the oil. I would say you have a pretty tight motor there. At least the main and rod bearings and oil pump seem good. Chuck

Cold oil pressure should be higher than hot oil pressure but it sounds like cold was 35 - 45 but now it is 55 - 60 and does not drop once warmed up. Is that correct?

The simplest thing first, try another gauge.

Just a thought. Did you change the oil filter just before the pressure problem showed up? I've heard of the odd oil filter relief sticking. Supposedly, most likely to happen with a Fram filter. This info is just by word of mouth, not personal experience, so is not guaranteed..

So the pump was changed a year ago and this issue just started few days ago. About 1000 miles since pump was changed. Once warmed up, the pressure does not drop for several miles. Its never done this before in 7 years!

The oil pressure relief either in the oil filter or the pump may be sticking. I think I would just drive it and keep an eye on it. The amount of pressure you see cold isn't super high. Changing the oil filter would eliminate that as a cause. The oil pump is a bit more work. There is a relief spring behing the large flat nut on the side of the pump. Chuck

This may sound silly, but the oil pressure on my 292 jumped up about 10 psi when cold suddenly and it turned out to be due to a blown head gasket letting coolant into the oil which changed the viscosity. probably not your problem but though it was worth sharing.
