This is one of those things that isn't a big deal, but is frustrating nonetheless. Many years ago I installed a dust boot on the clutch fork without any problem. The boot was made of thin brown leather. I just bought another aftermarket dust boot that is made of much heavier black leather and I've tried every which way to install it with no luck. It just seems like they are too large and bulky to align the rivet hole and mount into the bell housing. Has anyone had success in installing one of these?

Did mine over a year ago and it was areal pain. Never did get it to really suit me.

Try using baseball glove softener on it. You can find it at sports stores.

Is it something that you can have an upholstery shop make so that it fits better?

You would probably have to take the aftermarket one apart to get the metal retainer clips out and then design a new pattern, smaller in size and of thinner material. I'm not sure if it is worth the effort. If you use the splash pan on the bottom of the bell housing, I don't know how much good the boot does anyway.
