I am needing to replace the battery in my 58 Ranchero. It appears that Interstate 29NF-VHD and Optima are my two choices. I am not sure from looking at the Optima website if their battery is a direct replacement as to size. I am interested in feedback from other members as to experiences w/both batteries and pros and cons. Also, if I might have missed another option! Thanks in advance, James Q, Ruston, LA

I have the Interstate in my 56.Never a problem. If you need more power you will have to change Battery Box to fit bigger Battery. Not a lot of choices in the stock Battery type.

I have an optima (75/35) Red Top in my 56, but they are shorter and wider than the stock batteries and you will have to modify your battery tray for them to fit well. They do make custom billet aluminum battery hold downs for this battery if you want to go that route. I've had the Optima battery for 5 years and I may need to replace it next summer.

Ford sold a 29NF battery, its a commercial unit. At the time I bought mine (5 or 6 years ago) I bought it from a Ford dealer at competitive prices.

Thanks for the replies. Oldcarmark, is the Interstate a drop-in fit to the original tray? I just ordered a new hold-down clamp and bolts from Macs and want to be able to use them!

Exact fit. That's the correct Battery for that application.
