I have not seen the truck yet, but the owner thinks its six volts and a pretty big motor. I told him it should be 12 volt and probably a stock 272. But if I remember correctly, some of the bigger F-series had the Lincoln Y block in a 312 or 317? If so, can anyone tell me about this motor and also if the year Ford trucks converted 6 to 12 was 1956?

Early 56 Ford Trucks and DSO trucks were as well as some cars were 6 volt, depending on where they were built. Reason being is the 2 way radios were 6 volt and fleet owners did not what to replace all the radios as they were very expencive.

Good to know. I will be prepared for possible 6 volt then. I have never dealt with any trucks this big but the concept behind fleet trucks being 6 volt certianlly makes sense. Any ideas on the lincoln Y block possibility?

it probably won't have the Lincoln block unless it's a 750 or 800. if it's a Lincoln it will have two ribs on either side of the hold down nuts on the valve covers. if it's a 4bbl it could be a 302 or 332 HD
