Transmission Removal

I am considering pulling the Fordo for repairs this winter.I have access to a hoist which makes it much easier to just pull the Transmission leaving the engine in the car.My question is will I need to support the back of the engine when the Trans is out or will the engine sit on the mounts without support?I don't have a steadyrest.What works as a support so I can put the car back on the ground?

I would find a way to support the rear of the engine. Especially if it will set for a while. I've used a couple of long bolts in the bell housing holes and found a bar that would fit across the frame so the bolts rested on the bar. I've seen people run a chain up to a bar resting on the inside of the fender lip. Chuck

2x MoonShadow. You should also loosen the motor mounts to lessen any twisting stress on them. The transmission case is intended to support the rear of the motor so you must substitute something to accomplish that. A 2 x 4 across the back spanning the frame rails will suffice. Be careful, be safe.
