I was under my car today to see what axle ratio it has. There was a tag on it that had "322" on it. There isn't any 3.22 listed in the axle chart. What could this possibly mean?

The standard ratio in 56 with an 8 cylinder engine and automatic transmission was a 3.22.I don't know why your reference material doesn't show that.

Oddly my 1949 - 1959 Ford Parts Catalog doesn't list a 3.22 ratio. Maybe I missed it somewhere as I was fairly sure a 3.22 was standard as well.

At least the horsefly that was on there yesterday has been swatted.

3.22 was only used one year 1956. Also was the only year 49/56 for the fine splined axles.

Interesting to know. It's still seems odd there is no mention of the axle in the Ford parts book.
