Hey Guys,
I replaced my filter myself and of course it leaked, I had a garage work on it for me, they had to grind out a latex based looking material material someone had seated the filter with they cleaned the base good and replaced the filter but I still have a leak.
I would appreciate any further actions I can try to stop the leak permanently. Your help would be most appreciated.

There is an oil return line that goes from the breather into the block. If they clog up you will get a leak. The unit is easy to remove and will have two screws visible when the canister is off. Also you want to make sure the filter canister is fitting properly in the bottom section. Chuck

Some replacement filter elements are too tall and prevent the can from seating properly.

One more word of advice here as well... although most of the leaks from the "beehive" assembly for blowby is indeed coming from "OUTSIDE" the tube and dripping down where you could see it, I did have one situation with a 272 that was leaking FROM THE INSIDE of the tube. It really was not a "leak" essentially but the issue was serious blowby that the vapor was getting through the filter and then condensing past that. The smoke coming from the bottom of the tube carried droplets of oil with it. I removed the assembly, put a cap over the block hole, and then installed a breather assembly at the valley pan. No more problems.
Don't know if this is the issue or not but it sounds like the shop needs to take the entire assembly off of the engine and inspect everything. Sometimes the welds below the cap where the tube is welded up, etc, do not hold very well.

Does the breather unit have to be removed? Hope this doesn't sound to naive but I'm not a mechanic.Thanks

Probably should remove it if you can't stop the leak. Take the filter cover off, remove the filter to access the 2 bolts inside. The drain back tube comes out with it..

Ditto -- have it removed so you can expect it. You never know... there could be a pinhole below the cannnister or you could have a weld not holding up. Better to know than to keep chasing it. These things are fairly easy to remove. After you take off the cap by removing the capscrew, then remove the two screws that hold the housing to the block. Access to the two screws cannot be had until you remove the beehive cap. The Phillips head is pretty large for those screws.
