I have a tube coming from the side of my new gas tank but I can't figure out where the line is supposed to exit out of the trunk area. Does it go to the spare tire well which has a hole at the bottom where the tire lays? thanks

You didn't say what car you have, but on my '55 Merc it exits at the left side of the filler neck behind the license plate. Should be a grommet there at about 10 o'clock.

Take a peek under the gas tank door, there is a solid line that runs from a rubber hose on the gas tank to under the gas tank door,it is on the drivers side Carl

It is on a 1955 customline and there is no hole in the rear panel around the filler neck probably have to drill one?

From memory on my 56 there is a hard line that runs on the inside of the trunk along the rear panel then goes up and back down on the L/H/rear quarter and exits out the base there. Mine is not connected as it came with a new tank with no outlet to connect to a breather.. Just to make sure I took a 'Nip" of the rubber seal of the fuel cap [non original] and have had no problems.

As others have said, if you lower the fuel tank flap yo will see a grommet inside on the left side of the opening. All 55's vent at this location.

I know what the problem is then I replaced the rear trunk panel and there is no hole in it under the gas tank door for the line to come out.

Easy fix. Drill a hole, stick a grommet in it and stick the end of the line into the grommet.
