Hey Guys, I have been having issues with leaking header gaskets. All I can find up here is the Felpro exhaust manifold gaskets and not any performance header gaskets. I have even tried to double them up, to no avail. Do any of you guys know a source or have a brand name and part # so I can order some. I'm tired of my car "farting away" as I cruise byCrazy

It is those cheap headers you got last year at EXPO! You need a set of Yestertech headers!

Told you to let me have them for a while! I've seen several sets of Y-block header gaskets on EBAY lately watch them. Also try Mr Gasket and possibly Sanderson Headers (they make headers for the truck, must have a gasket too?Wink) See you in Columbus? Chuck

Jim, if you want to be a nice guy and buy me a set of Jerry's headers for Christmas, I would be forever greatful!BigGrin  Also, Jim I am having trouble logging on to this forum, I think I might have put my e-mail address in incorrectly. I cannot seem to be able to edit it. My correct email is robert.bolzon@skymark.ca  not .com. I'm not sure if you can fix it from your end?

Oh and by the way, just when I thought things we going ok, I blew the heater core in the 56 last nightAngry just bypbutted it for now, hopefully the leak is in a place I can braze!

Rob,

I found a piece of Graphite coated gasket paper which worked pretty well for my Hedmans. I have a bunch left, send me your addy in a private mail and I'll mail you a piece big enough to make gaskets. I'll even tell you where to get more if I can remember where I bought it.

TSmilehanks for the help guys, I ordered a set of "Best Gaskets" from Red's Headers (he swears by them) and I will try and file the mating surface. As for the heater core, I brought it into work and they are going to pressure test it for me. Hopefully the leak is in a spot that I can braze, if not I'll be looking for one. Thanks again.

Hey Rob, let me fix your gasket problem when I get to Columbus!  I will give it a good tune-up as well! Just let me under the hood for 5 minutes. Trust me, I'm a truck driver! What's the firing order again? 1 2 678??? I will have it running like a dream. Sure hope you make it to Columbus as it wouldn't be the same without you. Are you bringing more illegal immigrants with you this year?

Regards Lon

Hey Lon, I would trust you under the hood of my car, as far as I could throw you (probbably can't pick you up)Tongue You know, you ARE driving a faster car than me down at Columbus, so I don't think the issue is with the cars......... it may be the "sleepy" driver.Wink The fact that you seem to give me a half track head start every year might be the factor. Just kidding buddy, God willing, I'll be there this year and I am planning on bringing some "pit monkeys" along. It is just too bad I cannot get another Canadian Y'er to actually come and run their car. I guess I'm the only one up here with big enough b#!!s or little enough brains to to run! Maybe someone will see this post and try and prove me wrong. See Ya at Columbus BigGrin

Possibly related to Rob's Heater Core failure, I can't find the correct original 1957 radiator cap, psi info?  Not even in the 1957 manual. Anyone know for sure? thanks - Paul
By Ted - 19 Years Ago
I run the 7# cap on my '55.  After fighting an annoying and reoccurring leak at the seam in the radiator tank when using the 13# cap, switching to the 7# cap completely stopped that problem.  Still runs just as cool as ever and haven't had a radiator problem since.

Ted & Tom: Thanks, I suspected, my 16# cap that someone put on was wrong. I'll drop down to a 13# or lower, as I've also got a Rad seepage problem at the top tank to core area. And yes, a family member is driving a veteran car that previously had a heater core failure & I've dropped it to 7#s.

Special note: I'm told that that some models of Tauruses are the most difficult & expensive, ($$$!) cars around to change a heater core on. If anyone in our group owns one, you might want to check with Ford to see if your model is one of the expensive ones to fix.  If so, lowering the rad cap psi might be a good idea... ? - Paul
