I thought it would be neat to share some old images I've scanned from magazines that I own in addition to pictures I've came across on the internet over the years. I have a few hundred magazines so if there is any interest in these old pics I'll post more as I get time. Feel free to add any vintage pics that you may have.

And the one that really gets me going, it's from the October 61 issue of HRM but the license plate says 1959 so it must of took them a couple years to get it featured. What a bad ass roadster.

A very cool dragster.

Thanks for putting these up! Nice stuff.
What intrigues me is that "Barnes Stormer" car. Always knew the Nascar and the Drag Strip Y block fame, even including things like Pike's Peak. Never heard of the road race scene... wonder where that car is today. What a gem.

Some magic hot rod stuff there, some of it must still be sitting in sheds....

What year was the magazine that featured the Tbird headers?

Since the '57 wasn't mentioned in the ad, I would assume the ad was published in '56.

John's correct, those headers were in the May 56 issue of Hot Rod.
More scans for your viewing pleasure.

Great add from the April 65 issue of Popular Hot Rodding.

Y powered A/Street Roadster, dig the flathead in the opposite lane.

The top article has a caption about the '57 T-Bird rear end, but it is obviously a Dana, so probably a '55 or '56 Bird rear. '57s used what we call the 9 inch, but I think it was actually an 8 3/4. All the 9 inch stuff fits though.

The Y A/SR and the flatty are right hand drives, down under maybe?

The BLUEBIRD Injected coupe is y all time favorite. I look back at the pics of it all the time.Once was a time I would have liked to recreate that one. I think the original is gone or seriously changed now.
I've never seen that 55 Car before. Interesting to see all they did to it back in that day. Wonder what ever happened to that one? Definitely an early sleeper car.

I have seen current photos of the Blue Bird coupe and it is totally changed now with a BBC if I remember correctly.
The photo with the Y and flathead powered roadster is from the 1966 Australian drag fest as is the photo posted below. Both dragsters appear to be "Y" Powered.

More from "Down Under" this roadster still exists pretty much as it is seen here in the July 1963 issue of Rod and Custom.

You know I've been a Y-Block fan since I bought my 57 convertible back in 1959. But for some odd reason I can rarely remember seeing them in race cars or hot rods in the 50's and 60's. Thanks for posting these ads and pictures they are a reminder of what I seem to have missed. I guess the Kansas City area was having a scrubfest or something. Chuck

Thanks for posting those Slick, that's some interesting work down on those heads. I'm wondering how effective it was.
