Geez Im a sucker I just couldn't pass up this little red convertible.. Much whining from the miss's ..
Tim my like this, I think he has one?
1961 Triumph Herald convertible .. This one is a little different as it has been legally fitted with a 2.5 lt 6 cylinder, everything on this one has been rebuild and had to go through ADR. [Australian design rules]
Drives very well, steering is so tight tho' the brakes should be better, but as the owner said they probably haven't even bedded in yet..Hes said it would not have even done 2000 miles since he built it all.
Just waiting now for the money to clear in his account and I should have it by the weekend

VERY nice and SUPER Clean! I had one of those SU carbs on the first Harley chopper I built in the early 70's.

I did say should could.. Im so kind But its typical vintage sports car driving, sharp gear shift, short pedal take up etc. that will be interesting to say the least!

That's an interesting dual brake mastercylinder set up. I know the car looks nice, but it's a pommy jigger, so you are going to need a lot of spare time putting things back on as they fall off in the natural progression of their design

Yes, Im hoping it wont be too bad .. the best sticker I ever saw was on the back of a BMC mini and its said.. "the parts falling off this vehicle are made from the finest British quality!"

Hey go easy guys
at least in those days we could call them our own
nowadays the auto industries here are owned by the Indians Chinese Germans and Japanese
the utillities are like wise in foreign ownership thanks to our useless politicians

Talkie, Tim's does not have a TR6 engine. My TR doesn't either, has a Ford 3.0 V6.

That MC setup should be adjustable for balance, you have more front weight now,,,that is the GT6 motor, not a TR 6 isn't it?
That should be a lot of fun,,,,

It could be two diff sized M/cyl . I did ask him to make sure he had the right sized rear wheel cyl, said yes. Its all been looked at by an engineer. The motor is just a simple 2500 . from a saloon ? I have yet to get right into the ins and outs of the pommie car world!

There is a coupe version in a local junkyard,it must not have been driven very long since it has 68 license on it.

I forgot to say I picked it up last night and it really is a joy to drive its so much fun, not a real powerhouse but zips along nicely with the close ratio 4 speed and 6 in it.

Very nice! I've wanted to put a six in Kathy's Herald but the thought of late is a V8-60. Of course she's plenty happy with her "hot rod" 60 hp Spit engine.

Just want to add, all the jokes about parts falling off are untrue. Kathy is NOT mechanically inclined and she'll drive her's anywhere. Just keep the oil topped off, when it stops leaking it's out.
If you want a little more power you might want one of these.

Geez that looks like a mini Eaton ?? I have a SC14 off a Toyota under the bench, was thinking about putting that on the flathead in the pickup.
Had a great weekend driving it around, great with the 6 in it, but could do with further tune I feel. Finally got the wife in a took off for a cruise to the beach. Hit the roundabout and lucky I had to stop [for a change] I took off and my door sprung open..Mm the finest English engineering??! I casually lent out grabbed it and closed it while cornering ..The misses had a horrified look on her face..

I just had another look at the pic with the blower.. How on gods green earth is that setup going to breathe through that tiny air filter . Imagine when it comes on boost ?? I take it that that would be a 2" SU Im running 2 x 1 3/4 as it is.

Yes 2" HD8 off a Jag. The airfilter is plenty big enough and the engine dynos at 140 hp at the wheels (stock was 75) all tha has been changed is the cam, all stock internals otherwise. Eaton M62.
Tell me about the door problem, I don't know who cam up with that latch mech. but he should be shot.

He was probably given a Knighthood.
As an apprentice mechanic that served my time on Landrovers and Bedford 4x4's, we often joked that the English designers went out of their way to make everything hard for us to work on. We were sure they were rewarded with holidays to the French Riviera and the like for coming up with the most impractical and rediculous designs possible. Crazy ideas like a making the engine pipe on a Landrover go up and over the crossmember so that you had to remove the L/H transfer case mount to fit it. But the only access to the bolts was from the top and instead of fitting spring washers, some future Knight of the Realm decided to fit lock tabs instead so this meant removing the seats and flooring to access these bolts. All this work just to change a simple exhaust pipe. Eventually we worked out our own method and cut the pipe in two and just replaced the front half each time. Bloody Pommies!

There goes the neighbourhood!!!! That little red thing zooming around the suburbs. The Heralds used to have the most incredible turning circle and really could turn on a dime. But, how could we malign the British, They gave use the wonderful Mini (not) that taught us a whole new vocabulary and my back still gives me gyp when I bend over a bonnet - not to mention the scars on the back of my hands from trying to get my XL mitts into tight spaces. I did say the scars were on the back of my hands!!

Don't think it is restricted to pommy cars. Try turning the Tbird over by hand from the front pulley, I seem to knock off about 28 layers of skin.

Well boys I really muffed it ..You wont believe it the handbrake wasn't set properly and it sailed down my driveway across the road and smashed into my neighbours car.. Being a Ford tray back ute nothing happened to it. My precious little Trump has the whole arse end caved in .. Christ I haven't even had it a week. The missus was not impressed I can tell you.. I don't think my insurance company will be either..
You would like this one to work on Rick you can open the bonnet and sit on the wheels, on top of the firewall there a neat little area to place your tools too..
I will except your laughter now. ; o (

Its too hard to laugh but I'm sure many of us share your pain. Its such a well done little car. I hope you can get it fixed. Did you have specialty car insurance on it? Chuck

Yes its all under control paid the $250 excess Doh! ..Just hoping to find a boot lid locally. Other small parts can be sent out from the UK pretty quick.. I was going to try post a pic but cant see how when just replying?? I think it would have been far funnier [for others] if I had of seen it happening and was ..arms flailing in the air running after it .. Most amusing ; o P

Sorry to hear of this little misshap. I hope you can get the parts to fix it. One week after I painted Kathy's Herald the cat knocked the Honda 100 over and put a little dent in the side of my fresh paint. I was not happy.
