Whoever did the 6 to V8 conversion on my recently acquired 56 Customline never installed the front engine steadyrest. How important is this item? Should I start the search for the components to install one?
Thanks, Bruce

Not. They were discontinued in 57 as not effective. Almost all modern cars use two side mounts on the engine and one on the transmission. Works fine. Chuck

I think that the mounts on yblocks do not stop the the engine coming forward. The fronts are at right angles to the engine and the rear is a slip fit. At least with the steady rest fitted, there is a chance that the engine won't go through the radiator in a panic stop.

I did the l6 to v8 conversion in my '54 customline and didn't use the steady-rest. x2 what moon shadow said.
