Found a set of rocker arms I had purchased 38 years ago for a '57 T'Bird. But I do not know how to determine what the ratio is. They are in a Sealed Power box with part # 1-RA-1001 with a L 40 below that #. I have tried to reference Sealed Power #, with no luck. Thank you, Charlie

They must be from the 292 which was the Standard motor for the '57 Bird and the RA's were 1.43 ratio, If from a 312 they would be 1.53 ratio and prefix or suffix depending on mfg. would be RB (Factory used suffix RB for 1.53's).

I thought 292 and 312 used the same rockers in 1957. Anyone know for sure? My parts books are at home and I am not at this time.

My factory Shop manual shows 1.43 for 292 and 1.53 for 312 and the parts catalog the same, although you could of course use the 1.53 on a 292. FORDs thought may have been that you did not need the 1.53 with the smaller valves.

Not that it is all that big of a deal but I thought the hi ratio's were 1.54 not 1.53. I know the 1.43 are the lo's.

@312T85Bird - is that a 57 manual you are referring to?

Kind of odd... all of the 57 blocks and head original combos that I have dismantled all had the ECG rockers.

I'm on board with Dan and Slumlord on this subject. In my experience, parts manuals can be wrong.

All of my reading and experience with seemingly never-apart or worked-on '56 and '57 Ford y-block Fords says that ALL engine displacements (272, 292, 312) came from the factory with 1.54:1 ratio rockerarms. Both years carry the casting number ECG 6564 on the upper rib section of the rocker.

With regard to replacement rockerarms, everything available on the aftermarket for MANY years has been strictly 1.43:1 ratio.

Related to all of this, I have purchased or inspected numerous re-manufactured rocker arm assemblies directly from Ford and Ford authorized re-manufacturers over the years. Every assembly I've inspected had mixed ratio rockerarms, i.e., both 1.43:1 and 1.54:1.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your effort in trying to help me identify the ratio on a pair of Sealed Power rocker arms for a y-block ford. 38 years ago, I purchased 2 pair. I used one pair on a 57 t'bird, 312 motor, which is why I had ordered them. Did not realize at the time that there was more than one ratio. The box that I still have is unopened, but in very bad shape except for the manufactures label on end of box. Tomorrow I will open them to try and find any identifying marks on the rockers themselves. These are not a Ford manufactured product, but are manufactured by Sealed Power. These are friction single piece adjustable locks. Thank you charlie

You can try to accurately measure the two ends and compare to get the ratio. I have tools that would let me do this, but, not everybody does. Two dial indicators and a rocker shaft would do it.

Teach me to type when I am tired, Yes I meant 1.54's and yes the manual is a '57 and I have two 312's with 1.54's, and a set from a 312 that I split up and sold off along with two sets of 292 1.43's. I have heard many times that FORD was building cars so fast for the '57 Model year that what was there got put in regardless of what any books say and I believe this as Our '57 Bird escaped the factory with a close ratio T-85 overdrive (in lieu of the normal T-85 O.D.) and a 3:91 rear. I have since switched to the 3:56 with was optional for the T-85 Overdrive as the standard was normally 3:70. The one thing that I enjoy about this site is the opinions that are offered as well as many time facts with varied experiences, I ran "Y's" in the '60's and now again for the past five years or so and I enjoy hearing from the guys that never stopped running them as well as the newbees, I appreciate comments from all as well as the chance to express mine. Thanks guys.

Hmmmm... take a look at this, Charlie...

Go to the Internet address www.streetperformance.com
On the web page that opens, use their search function and insert, 'Sealed Power RA-1001'

I came up with a complete rocker arm and shaft assembly listing for $274.29 (pair, I assume...)

Also, when I Googled 'Sealed Power RA 1001 rocker arm assembly', there was a listing of Summit Racing for this part.

When I toggled the listing, it opened to the Summit site, but the page indicated that the Sealed Power part was N/A (not available)

The description is for 'Rocker Arms and Shaft Assemblies, Ford, 239/272/292/312, Y-Block, Pair'
The former Summit part number was SLP-RA-1001
