Does anyone know how much pressure should a double action fuel pump should be pumping at ?   I installed a pressure  gauge and it shows 3 lb pressure.....seems to me it should be more than that .....anybody  have an answer.....Thanks   Sam

The old 94's (2bbl) couldn't handle much more than 2.5 lbs of pressure. I don't know what the teapots could handle, so three lbs may be ok. Just a guess.

The pump pressure is only part of the equation. It also needs sufficient volume. The pressure should be 3 to 5 PSI. It should pump a pint in 30 seconds idling at 500 to 600 RPM.

More than 5 will cause it to blow the needle off the seat and it'll flood at low speeds or at idle. Teapots don't like a lot of fuel pressure. If you put a later model Holley on it you can run up to around 7, But if it runs good as is why increase it?

Well , i reckon i forgot to say ,  i am running a elderbrock  500 ,  seems to run pretty good ,  so  prob.  leave it as is ................spark plugs are wet with gas ,  installed a pressure gauge thinking the fuel pump  was pumping way too much pressure......Anybody have any suggestions !!! ...................Thanks   to all..........Sam

Sam,

          Start by checking the float setting and making sure there's nothing blocking the needle / seat assembly. I'd pull the top off the carb and check for crud in the bottom of the float bowl. Might be a good idea to plumb a filter into the line ahead of the carb. Stupid as this sounds, next look for vacuum leaks, and check your timing . Set the idle by leaning the mixture screws until it begins to lose RPM, that's usually done by turning the screws in. I'd also check to make sure the things fully warmed up when you set it. It will want to be richer when it's cold than it will hot.
