The 292 in my Custom 300 won't stay on once started. It will start but once I let the key go it shuts off.
Was running fine until after I installed a trickle charger.
Could I have shorted something out causing this?
Thanks

Check the Ballast resistor inline to the coil to see if its burned out.Voltage to the coil is supplied from the solenoid when starting. When you release the key voltage is supposed to come through the resistor.

You are not getting power to the coil in the on position of the switch when You hit start the solenoid sends 12v to the plus side of the coil... so it starts but as soon as the solenoid releases the current to coil is gone and it dies Check you ballast resistor, wiring from switch to ballast resistor, and to coil also this is what often happens when an ignition switch fails
