On the race cars, the big advantage is the ability to circulate coolant while it’s not running. It’s also worth a minimum of 5-6 horsepower over a mechanically driven pump. I was building the electric pumps for the Y for awhile but the manufacturer of the electric drive I was using changed up the design which created some fitment problems with the aluminum housing I was using. I simply haven’t had the time to redesign the housing to accommodate a different design electric drive.
Here are some links to past threads giving more detail on electric water pumps for the Y’s.

I'd be leery of one for a street vehicle. Ted's is the only one I know of for the Y. On the mainstream motors, they are usually racing pieces which don't have the same requirements as a street vehicle, which has to run continuously, during all seasons, and in all traffic conditions.
If you race your street vehicle on occasion and want the edge of an electric pump, there are electric drive motors such as:

These pretty much convert your current pump to electric for racing and you can swap back to a tried and true belt for the street.

I have one of Ted's pumps on my race only engine and it works great, but I don't think I would want to use it on the street. Like Ted stated, it is great for cooling the engine after a run along with the elec fan.
