Hi, anyone had an experience with putting a PCV valve into the back of the valley cover. Do you need a splash guard fitted to the valley cover under the valve or do the Y Blocks not have much oil splashing around in that area.

I put a splash guard and it still sucked oil, in fact I had oil coming out the tail pipe.

i have a pcve valve going ito the 3/8 capscrew hole wher the push rod is driver side rear.i do not have return oil frome rockers re tube. this works fine ,no splash, took a bras fiting and dyed the fiting to 3/8 coarce and wound it in as a tryel for pcv into carb. no oil pickup. iam sure if rocker drain tube was still ther it would not work well.have put on 500 miles no loss of oil or smoke.hardest part was getinge the richt fitig, threading the male end andpresing the pcv onto the other end. helps to have a metal lath

I used a Moroso valve cover grommet that was a "duck bill" kind of design, installed in the valley cover. Worked well on the stock, low rpm motor. When I built a new motor and took the rev's up, added a new oil pump, it sucked oil on long hard pulls. Then I had to add a baffle. I think it was spraying oil off the dizzy gear. Used a PCV valve off a similar size ford motor, like a 289-302. Ran to the proper place on an Edelbrock 1405. Don't know about a carb spacer. Some here have had to restrict flow to avoid it acting like a big vacuum leak. Try PCV in the search function. Tons of info.

I used a T-Bird Valley Cover which has a Baffle as original design.I initially used a Ford 302 PCV but it was allowing too much air so the idle was rough.Switched to a PCV for a 1978 4 cylinder Zephyr-Fairmont and it worked great. You can also use a restrictor in the vacuum line if you want to spend time trying that.Trial and error. The Holley 390 CFM Carb has a hookup for PCV.If you need- to drill and Tap for a fitting as close to centre of Intake as possible.DON'T hook it into the vacuum fitting at the rear of the Intake.Rear Cylinders will run lean. This is a worthwhile modification. For one thing you lose the "Gas" smell in the Garage after it sits for awhile.

Further to what old car mark posted, I thing some later 292 engines, possibly including trucks, had the baffled rear vent valley covers. You may need to cut out the female thread piece down inside, that held the original down draft tube, so as to accept the valve. Or, if you want to go fancy, J. Mummert sells new aluminum ones, with or without the baffle.
