My neighbor is building a Y-block for his 56 Bird. It is 335 cu but otherwise pretty much stock parts. 57 Cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds. Stock converter, stock rear end. 9.5 compression, G heads. He wants a rumble but not a tempremental street engine. Question is between Isky E-4 or F-300. Looks like a toss-up to me. Anyone running either cam?

Royce, I have it in the truck. I like it. I'm idling around 750 with stick tranny. Whoops it's the E4.

The E4 has what I’d consider a ‘Cobra Jet’ rumble and sounds nice but isn’t lopey. I had a customer hear the one that’s in my ’55 272 and He thought that it was too much rumble for a parade cruiser. So I had his particular cam ground on 112° lobe centers instead of the stock 108° centers to smooth it out. But if you’re wanting a definite lope, then the E4 is still on the mild side. On the flip side, the E4 is very streetable and can be made to idle down quite slow with the '57 four barrel intake in place. I’ve no experience with a running F300 cam.
