I just got done installing a new distributor, new condenser and points, set timing with #1 cylinder at tdc compression stroke and rotor set at #1 wire. Can't seem to get any spark. Any suggestions? Car is a 1955 custom line with a 272 y block. Had to replace distributer because old one was froze and couldn't adjust timing.

Check the coil wire with the ignition on it should be hot. Also, if you have a tester, check from the coil to the distributor to see if you have continuity. Did you clean the block good so the new distributor has a good ground. Chuck

On some vehicles starting circuits - if you have neglected to replace the proper "jumper wire" from the starter solenoid direct to the coil...........then the coil will be dead when the engine is cranking..........

Turn key on and open and close points with a screwdriver and see if you have spark. if not you are not getting juice to the distributor or coil. Is the coil grounded good? I had one with a bad ground and when checked with a meter the coil voltage was jumping all around from like 3v to 6 or so but not a steady 12 like it should have had.

Yes, first check to see if you get spark to the points by turning on the ignition the opening the points with a small screwdriver as mentioned above.
I had a similar problem with my 55 Fairlane, also 272, where I was not getting spark. Mine had the lead wire from the points connected at the pass-through point of the distributor, which is supposedly insulated from the distributor housing. I could not get it to do so, so I ran a continous wire from the points to the coil lead.
