Hello,

I have a 1955 Ford Customline with aoriginal the 272y Block and trans. I am the car shipped across the USand the driver called me today and told me when he started the carit puked trans fluid all over and now only works in reverse and not drive; it will go into park. There has been no changein elevation being the car is still in FL. Does anyone have any ideas whyit would puke trans fluid everywhere and why it will not go into driveall of a sudden?

Thanks,

Roger

Roger, My first guess is converter drainback, common with Fordomatics when they are parked and not driven for a long time. Primary cause usually is worn convertor snout and front pump bushing often from misalignment and sag.  Fluid gets air entrained by being up too high in the pan, as upon starting  its in into the gear train; resulting frothy fluid does not work well hydraulically;  ususally  this pukes out the filler tube.  It can take  many hours for the air to separate from the fluid.  Low fluid level can cause this sometimes if the pumps suck air.  Reverse only may mean other problems, but maybe not.

Hi,
I wanted to say thanks for the reply, its really gives me a jump on things. I am going to look into it once the car shows up and try servicing it; I'm sure it hasn't been done in the last 20yrs.

  Again, thanks for the reply.
Roger
