If the trans doesn't have a working solenoid one will cost you as much as the trans. Remember that the pre 1965 truck and passenger car versions use a different length input shaft. The yoke is the same as a C6.. Back in the 50's and early 60's the T85 was the only trans with this size yoke until the C6 came along. I didn't know that until I had a custom drive shaft made and found out from the drive shaft guy..

T5 is probably the best way to go. I considered that but I wanted to keep my three on the tree. 180 degree change in thinking from back in the day when I couldn't convert to a floor shift fast enough.
