Can anyone give me advice on replacing the door hinge pins on my 55 Fairlane Fordor sedan? It doesn't look like it will be a very easy job, if I can even do it at all. Are there any tricks to use with it to help do it? I can not find the procedure in the shop manual. If someone knows how to replace them, I sure would love to know how it's done. Thanks!

I bought a hinge pin removal tool for my 37 coupe project and I'm pretty sure they make one for 50's Fords too although I have not looked for one...YET!. It would probably help if you had an extra pair of hands or the ability to block the door up so you don't put extra stress on the hinge pins as you are trying to remove them.

The doors will be removed from the car and the hinges taken off. They will be just the hinges only to work on. New hinges are just about impossible to find, so I thought maybe I could just replace the pins to help tighten up the doors and eliminate any sagging, or most of it. My problem is, I don't know how to do it properly and I sure don't want to tear up my hinges with amateur bungling. I haven't heard of a special tool for this, so if anyone knows of a tool and how to get one, please let me know. Thanks.

There is a tool, I tried posting a link but it didn't work..
Google C & G Ford parts, they have the tool and pins.

i just did the ones on my 48merc pickup,same animal pin wise. grind the head off the pin,then center punch the pin(dead center)now drill a hole 1/8 or smaler.
then en large the holeto a depth of th sholder on the new pin. now with a good punch you should be able to drive the pin out. on 1 hing had to drill th e botem.
 if you have a new pin it helps as you only want to dtill the serated or large top of pin out,so 1 does not damage the bor o hinge whe pin is  smaller. good luck

I just did this on my 56. all you have to do is put the hinge on your vice with the jaws open the same width as the head of the hinge pin. now put the hinge upside down on vice with the head in the opening, take a short punch and pound it out from the bottom.  the pin has a serration under the head of about  1/4 inch. when that's out of the hole it will come out very easy
