Last weekend I was at the BeaterVille show here in Louisville.  There was a lot of strange, wonderful and just plain weird hardware on display.  There were a couple of Y blocks in evidence.  The most interesting one was in a '47 PU on a custom frame.  The trany and rear axle were Scrub.  It had transverse springs fore and aft. The engine was thought to be a '59 truck by the owner.  It had 471 heads and a very unusual water pump which had provision for a fan that would mount on a pedistal. The pedistal was part of the water pump and the water bypass went through it.  The balancer had an extra wide small dia groove in front of the more normal belt location. There was a picture of such a balancer in YBM last issue or so.  There were also holes in the timing case cover and a HD truck Oil pan.  The owner drove it into L'ville with open headers so there was no stock exhaust and it had a 4 bolt 2 bbl ford carb. It also had a canister type oil filter.  I guess that it came out of a COE '59.

The best part was that the owner said he loved it and would never change the engine!  Sorry I forgot to take the camera.

Doug,

I think you may have been looking at a stock 54, 55 truck water pump, they have the fan mounted on a pedestal with two different width belts.
