Hello all,

I purchased an accel 2020 conversion kit on Ebay.Haven't got it yet.Am I going to have to change the coil also?I just put in a new NORS on it which I would like to use for now.I know a high volt coil is a good idea to compiment the kit but is it neccessary right away?I am going to take off the loadomatic and put in a rebuilt 57-up distributor on my 56 Fairlane and retain the Teapot carb for the time being. Any input on a good replacement coil is welcome.Probably do that and wires next. Thanks Mark

no, you dont have to change out the coil for using points to electronic trigger, nor will you feel any difference on the street with a stock or near stock engine by changing the coil, unless the coil is on the way out.

Mark,

Holuns right, and old Ford coils in decent shape are actually pretty healthy coils. The electronics only changes the trigger mechanisim (Switch) from mechancal, points, to electronoic, Hal effect, or magnetic. Ask Ted, Hoosier, or Doug T which port in the carb to hook your vacuum advance to. On mine I used manifold vacuum by blocking an internal ported vacuum port in my carb.

I just installed a mallory electronic kit in my distributor. I also got the mallory coil just so I could get rid of the resistor. I guess a resistor is ok I just wanted to delete it.
