Can an overdrive unit be put on a standard duty truck 3 speed. I measured the box and it is the same as the car where the tail bolts on. I have complete car overdrive setups from bell to tail but the input shaft is shorter and doesn't have the coarse spline for the 11" clutch.

I know I have heard of trucks with the overdrive in them, what do I need to do to use a setup in my 57 F100?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, I put overdrive in my truck. I was told it was a 55-56 car transmission.I disassembled the transmission and pulled the car input shaft out of it, and put the input shaft from the truck transmission back in. It was 13" longer than the truck transmission, so I had to shorten the driveshaft 13". I wired the solenoid to a toggle switch on the dash. Gives you 6 gears forward if you want to play with it that way. In overdrive my 3.92 rear becomes 2.43. I love it.

Bill, you can't just bolt the overdrive onto the truck transmission, you need to use the overdrive transmission as a unit.

So you are saying that the truck input shaft will bolt right in a car tranny and then all I have to do is use the truck bell on the car tranny?

Of coarse I know I have to shorten drive shaft, Is the yoke the same spline? I haven't been able to go out and check that this morning yet.

Thanks for the reply.

Bill, both input shafts had the same diameter and number of teeth on the gear that fits in the transmission. Fits right in. Car tramsmission bolts right in place. Use blue wire on solenoid to toggle switch.

Yoke had the same splines, truck driveshaft fit on the splines.

Thanks for the reply Pinto,

Lon,

I am praying to make it, it was a long winter, I was working all over the place for the last 6 months or more (Finland, England, Estonia, Turkey, Greece, Kuwait and a couple jobs in the states.) and finally am getting a little break here, I have to take the money while its available, its not the case for a lot of people over here, the economy has went to pieces.

What Hotel do you have booked? Let me know and I'll give them a call to see if anything is available. How many from down under are you taking with you?

Good to hear from you, Bill

Oh P.S. I picked up a 57 F100 that I am trying to get done now. Sweet!!!
