What colour/s should a Y block be painted?

My engine is a 1959 312.

I recently met a chap here in England with a 1954 Ford Club Coupe. The only other person I have met with a Y Block powered car.

It had covered only 8000 miles from new.

His engine was cream with red/orange rocker covers. Is this correct?

So according to that huge thread (thanks by the way) my engine should be either red or blue with black rocker covers.

Cheers !!! BigGrin

A further complication is that original 50s formula FoMoCo engine-red paint invariably turns quite orange, as heat oxidizes/fades the red pigment component with time.

Bill hirsch in NJ has the proper color paint.

The 54's were cream in color with red rocker covers and air filter.

I believe the 55's started with the red and black.

I wanted to touch up my 55 Fairlane's 272.  It was painted the proper 50s Ford Red so that's what I bought.  Well the stuff in the can was quite a bit different from what was on the engine.  It did indeed fade to more of a "Chevy Orange!"

Looks it - most of the YBlock fuel pumps I've seen had the glass (filter) on the bottom.
