hi all this is an old topic i am sure ,, but what do we think of block and head steam holes. i have an engine that is already done and was wondering do i plug them up or just go with it and leave them alone??

Here are some links to past threads on this site regarding steam holes or vent holes in the decks.  I will add that the holes are simply vents to relieve some of the trapped air that gets caught under the decks.  With any corrosion buildup that occurs in those particular holes, they do become blocked and ineffective for that venting purpose.

sorry no pic, ,but i will try to explain.  2 small holes on the block deck and also the same 2 holes which match up on the heads, ,between the middle cylinders. i believe this was a FELPRO and also others idea in the past. i am inclined to plug them but thought i might seek some advice.

What gasket are you using?  Haven’t read thru all the links, but likely only severe/HP engine would get plugged (?)

i will be using standard monotorque gaskets when i get around to reassemble it.  i may plug the drilled holes.
