i uncorked the drain plug and got about a pint of water out, but i'm sure more to come as i would tilt it back.

this is a shortblock 312. i also got some water out of the oil filter housing that has a canister type filter (which is missing).

this enigne is sitting on a dolly and the heads are off.

there is no "clean" piston as might be indicated by a leaking head gasket.

all cylinder walls show no discoloration either.

the oil pump outlet closest to the block is open. i thought the only outlet/inlet was to the oil pickup which is at the front of the pan on this engine.

i just want to fire this up and see if it runs and go from there.

what else should i look for?

i am rewriting this post as the first one got lost.

so excuse my mistake if it shows.

thanks!

g'day davis

i would say its condensation i had the same problem recently when i changed my oil when i cracked the drain plug i got about a cup full of clear water then oil no water mixed in with the oil no green so it wasnt from any water leaks & this is a daily driver i havent used it for 2 weeks now & its done it again.

your oil pump if its next to the oil pick up tube on the pump then your oil pressure by-pass valve is missing. hope this helps
