I loaned a couple of my YBM's to a new Y Blocker, I don't remember which issues, and they somehow got lost or? Can anyone tell me which issue, I think it is a recent one, that had the article by Royce B. about the T-Bird rebuild where they ground down the crank and used SBC rods and gained a little stroke? Is this a good thing to do? Thanks,

Paul J.; I seem to recall that article but can't put my hand on it. Is that the article where he had a Cam ground with a very aggressive profile? I wondered how he was going to make out with that? As John Mummert considers the Mushroom Lifters to be somewhat fragile...However, re your lost copies, the best thing to do is put all your recent ones together & check the issue numbers. Then you can order the missing ones from the back issues list on the back cover of the magazine.

Try going to John Mummert's site and looking at the stroker rotating assemblies. http://www.ford-y-block.com/stroker%20kits.htm I've got a 320 and a 340 cid, and while I think the rods are a custom mod, the rod bearings are sbc, in either 2.00 or 2.10 (I think, it's been a while). I had to clearance the cam/rod area on the 340. It's pretty pricey for the machine work and new parts, unless you're looking at all new or reconditioned parts, anyway. Even with the 284 cam, it makes really good torque. miker

Paul, nothing to do with the cam, just the crankshaft, rods and pistons. I'm still searching for all my issues :-). Brian, There is a link on this site to email the editor/publisher, but no web site that I am aware of. It is published every other month and stictly Y-Block in content. Bruce Young, the editor, sponsors some of the Y Block National prizes. It is sort of a home grown publication, with articles you will not find anywhere else. Miker, I am familiar with Mummerts site and his stroker packages. Thanks guys,

Is this a good thing to do?Offset grinding the rod journals on a Y crankshaft is by far the most economical way to increase the stroke in the Y. For a 312 crankshaft, you can get up to a 3.52” stroke with a 2.100” journal, 3.62” stroke with a 2.00” journal, and 3.73” stroke with a 1.889” journal. For a 292 crankshaft, you can get up to a 3.38” stroke with a 2.100” journal, 3.48” stroke with a 2.00” journal, and 3.59” stroke with a 1.889” journal. These are all best case scenario numbers and if the crankshaft rod journals have noticable wear or have been previously turned, then the max stroke will not be achieved. You also have to be cautious in any widening of the journals that’s being attempted as it’s easy to intersect the oil galleries in the radius of the journal depending upon the particular crank design that’s being offset ground and how much stroke increase is being targetted for. Doing a search on this site using “offset grinding, Eagle rods, etc” as the key words brings up a number of past posts regarding increasing the stroke on the Y cranks. The issue of YBM where I wrote about my neighbor's 56 312 buildup is May-June of this year.
The economical H beam rods with a 2.1 bearing and a .912 pin are the key to doing this cheaply.

Here is a link to the Rods for a stroker using stock pistons. They have gone up some since I bought mine Use CRS 6200 F scrub rod bearing and ford piston pin

RB, How did you neighbors rebuild turn out? Has he taaken it to the drag strip? I remember you used an E4 cam, which I think might be great for low end torque and driveability. I'm thinking of going +.060 (my extra block needs to go +.060) RPM-300 cam, and a little gain in stroke with the SBC rods.
