For those that paid the ultimate price for the freedom that we have today .For those who are serving their countries right now .

They shall not grow old , as we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them, nor the years contempt

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them

Thanks Lon,

It's hard to believe that Viet Nam was 35 or 40 years ago. Doesn't seem that long. Whenever I see a serviceman in uniform I make an attempt to engage them in conversation, to thank them for their service. These kids are all volunteers, we weren't. Maybe a better breed, they sure impress me.  I remember how I felt when I left home, and I also remember the "no servicemen allowed" signs on some businesses in towns close to bases.

I'm concerned we're going to go through the same thing again here, now.

Thanks to all fellow Vets out there for past service and if you run into to one of our young troops, shake their hand and tell them how proud we are of them. I attended a deployment send off for my former unit this past week and it amazed me that even though some of these soldiers are going on their third deployment, they were fired up and ready. When my son came home several strangers came up to him in the airport just to say thanks, I could tell by the look on his face that it meant a lot to him and it made his old man pretty proud too.

For many years our Canadian Gov't ( and probably other Gov'ts) kept many of the records of the great wars, as classified information. In recent years this information has become available and is a sad eye opener & reminder of the Hell it was!..

This is a little late for Rememberance/Veterans Day,but I only found out about this yesterday. There is a web site run by the U.S.Army where a person can honor a soldier or veteran with a commendation from the Army.I received one of these a month or so ago and still don't know who ordered it for me,but it's appreciated. The honoree will receive a letter and commendation signed by the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff along with a pin and a decal.I ordered one for my 89 year-old Father-in-law who hit the beach at Normandy in 1944.

These can be sent to anyone that's served in the U.S.Army,including our comrades-in-arms from north of the border and from down under.

The web site:

Fellas, Just got back from an out of town trip and was reading all of the "new" posts. Had to respond to this one.

I am an army brat myself - born in Heidelberg, Germany, in the same hospital that our beloved General Patton (need more of him right now - this political correctness thing has got to go!) died in.

My father was drafted late in the Vietnam War, and I have thanked him and the good Lord that my dad was not a draft dodger like some other guys were who became political leaders...but I digress.

Thanks to all of our vets, and also those from other countries who have served with honor, duty, and love of freedom. This generation is indebted to all of you, as we are to those who currently serve. I also have happened to be the proud Youth Pastor of two boys that left our church to serve in Desert Storm with the 82nd Airborne, and the church I currently serve in has several WWII vets, and a Korean War Vet that made it through the battle of Pork Chop Hill - he still remembers how hard it was for the reinforcements to pry the Thompson out of his hands after it was over. His mind has gone a little, and the other day I thanked him for his service, and he told me, "You know, they want me to go back in, and I am ready. I don't know if my legs can hold up, but I am ready to go back over there." I know he has alzheimers' but I couldn't bring myself to correct him. So I said, "Jack, you do that, and we'll be praying for you - go get 'em!"

Vets have kept freedom alive around the world - Thank You

Dan

We still have one of the marines in our church who was at Iwo Jima. Has some tales to tell when you can dig them out of him. He saw the flag raising.

My Father and two uncles served in WWII, and I am very proud of them all. My Father served in Alaska on a PBY crew out of Dutch Harbor, and My one Uncle Was in the 101st Airborn in France on D-Day in the gliders also in the Battle of the Bulge where He received 5 Bronze stares. He never said anything about his expireance until right before he died in 2002.

They are all gone now, but live on in my heart.
