need to remove my heads for freeze plug replacement.

any suggestions on the best gasket sealant to use?

If you are using a good composition head gasket like Felpro, no sealer is needed. 

Mike, located in the Siskiyou mountains, Southern, OR 292 powered 1946 Ford 1/2 ton, '62 Mercury Meteor, '55 Country Squire (parting out), '64 Falcon, '54 Ford 600 tractor.

If you go with the steel shim gasket spray it with K&W Coppercoat.  If you are talking about the expantion plugs, I use #2 Pematex.

Assuming you’re asking about head gasket sealer and not sealer for the freeze plugs themselves, then if using the Best Gasket brand of head gaskets, they can go either way, sealer or not but if using sealer on these then use the spray on K&W Copper Coat.  And don’t use RTV or 3M cement on any head gaskets period.  Yes, I’ve seen that.

sorry... that phrasing was a bit vague, wasn't it...

I meant to inquire about the use of a sealer on head gaskets... needing to replace the freeze plugs was just the reason the heads are coming off...

I apply a skim coat of silicon to the coolant passage part of the intake gasket and leave the rest dry.This works wellas long as the gasket surfaces are flat and smooth. Also, use thread sealant on the bolts and studs.

ordered mine yesterday from CC Parts in NV... man, have they gotten my $$ as this project has unfolded!!

how about the thread sealer question on the head bolts... seems there is some difference of opinion... in my case, I am using the original ones, not replacement/upgraded ones...

target date for this work is in the next week or two;

appreciate all the input and insight so far!
