In the process of cleaning and repainting my generator while my motor is being rebuilt and have 2 questions.

1.  Does the voltage regulator need to be close to the generator?  Looking at locating it in the cab to clean up the fire wall, inner fenders and running wires to the generator via the frame.

2  Any suggestions on getting the pulley off?  I removed the nut but there is what appears to be a washer on the shaft that may or may not be threaded but appears to be held in by some indentations in the pulley.  I have tried holding the pulley and hitting the shaft but no moovement.  Any thoughts ideas?

I still have a puller that we have from the days of generators. It is two pieces shaped similar to a bearing splitter that fit in the groove. You could make two pieces to fit an the grove and hold them together with vice grips and then pull with a gear puller. A gear puller alone will bend the pulley.

Got an alternator/generator shop around you - I bet they would charge very little to take it off.

Appreciate the advise.  After lubing with WD-40 got a buddy to hold the pully while I twisted the guts and it came right off.  No sure this is the norm as there was a spot for a keeper in the shaft but lucky for me it was not there.BigGrin
