How were these old Y-Blocks in performance, were they pretty fast?

I have no idea since Ive never drove a Y on the road.

Thanks!

Fascinating!

Ray Brock was one of my favorite automotive writers, right up there with Roger Huntington.

Don't forget about Randy's car. 8.15 and not enough traction. The motor is definitely capable of 7s.

We measured the 1/4-mile time for our 292-powered '62 Galaxie 500 in years...BigGrin

I remember running the Galaxie through our impromptu "farmboy 1/4 mile" on the county road south of town one moonlit evening. I aged considerably before finally reaching the end of my trek.

'course, the 292 was the base V8 for the rather big & heavy '62 Fords, set up for regular gas and inhaling through a 2V carb. It actually did just fine for what it was meant to do. And it was durable.

And don’t forget Bob Lindsay from Oregon.  He showed up at the Columbus event in 2006 running a string of high eight second times at 150+ mph and took a runner up finish in the Y shootout with his Y powered roadster.

And this is just another reason the Columbus event is great for the Y'ers.  Always surprises each year.
