Do the cam suppliers we commonly refer to on this forum all apply a hardening treatment, alloy or ? to the lobe surfaces to reduce wear?  or is that an option?

I would think it would be best to get your new lifters from your cam source, is that the concensus of the group?  I know there have been some issues with lifters being correctly surfaced and hardened for our Y Block applications.  It is such a big job to change a cam, for me, that I want to get it right the first time.

Majority of the new cams are surfaced hardened where they  are made from cast iron.  Regrinding a camshaft tends to remove some of this hardening and the degree that the camshaft was originally hardened has a lot to do with how robust the camshaft will be after regrinding.

 

My own preference is new lifters with a new camshaft and preferably the same brand lifter as the camshaft simply for warranty purposes.

Thanks Ted,

I have been searching the archives and the vendors sites.  Some of the cam vendors do not supply lifters, and it looks like they all perform some type of hardening processes.  I guess a new lifter is a new lifter to any cam, profound huh, and there are no other metalurgical compatibility issues...they just need to break in together.
