....hello @ all, weeks ago i bought a new fomoco ´57 ditributor single contact for my 312 y block, with youre helps i found the right one !!! Thank´s !!!

Now i will install a pertronix and read that the 1281 module is the right one, but i have a accel super coil 14001 yellow, and this coil works with primary o,7 ohm.

A friend told me that it fits but because of the o,7 ohm the module becames to much volts and anytime later it will be broken because of overheating the module????

He told me that i can take the 9/1281 ignitor II modul it works with 0,6 ohm and it will work with my acccel super coil 0,7 ohm.

What can i take, and what is right????

Sorry for writing mistakes, hope you can read my shool english ;-))))

Andy,

We can read you fine. I'd check the Pertronix web site and find out if they think the coil's

ok. If not, sell that one on Ebay and get the correct coil.

I agree with pegleg, the guys at Petronix are really good and get back to you fast.  I had a reply in a few hours.

Andy - Glad you are making progress on your ignition.

The Ignitor II coil is .6 OHMs so I would expect the "Super Coil" (.7 OHMs) would work directly with the Ignitor II module (no ballast resistor required). I have also seen some internet comments that the Ignitor II worked best with its own brand coil - so it might not be well matched to the electrical characteristics of the Accel coil. Could maybe perform a bit less than you expect.

Rosie mentioned the use of a ballast resistor - MSD has a .8 OHMs resistor #8214 which would work with the Accel coil and the original style Ignitor module (combined OHMs of 1.5 is required). Should work OK - just follow the Ignitor instructions to feed it 12V power - the module has to receive full voltage to function properly. Make sure the plate to which the Ignitor control module attaches - is well grounded to the engine block.

Andy,

I've used the original Pertronix and the Ignitor II in a few applications over the years.  I've found that I have the best luck when I keep it all one brand.  The Pertronix coils are well made and mate right up to their corresponding pertronix ignitor module, no ballasts, no fuss.  I've had a standard Ignitor system running for over 5 years now with no problems.  I'd agree with a previous post, sell the Accel and buy the correct Pertronix.  In the long run it'll save you money and headaches!Wink

....Must i take other spark plugs in my engine, with other gap, which is the best (312 cui engine)

You’ll find some disagreements or varying opinions with the spark gaps in relation to electronic ignition use.  Engines retrofitted with electronic ignitions will still leave this shop gapped at 0.035” or less simply because the engines are carburetted and not fuel injected.  The leaner mixtures associated with fuel injection do like the wider gaps in which to ‘search’ out the fuel mixture and start the combustion process but the richer mixtures afforded by a carburetor do stress the ignition system components when running the gaps wider.  Richer fuel mixtures simply requires more voltage in which to jump the gap.  I’ll still maintain that the life of the electrical ignition components will be improved running the stock spark plug gaps on the narrower end of the scale and I’ve yet to see a performance gain in increasing the gaps on the carburetted engines.  What I see most of with increased gaps is misfiring in the upper rpm ranges where the ignitions are being stressed.

Other opinions welcome of course.
