Anybody have specific cam reccomendations for a 292 with McCullouch supercharger? I want it to be streetable but with performance. Chuck

I have the F-code repro cam. I don't yet have any experience with it and a blower. It has a 112 lobe separation which, as I understand, is good for a blower. I believe the specs on it are 274 adv, 226 @.050, .296 lift and 112 lsa. The power seems to come on somewhere between 1500 and 2000rpm or so. I'm not sure if it's the best choice for my naturally aspirated setup because of the lobe separation. Most natural aspiration cams seem to have 108 to 110 separation. I got it several years ago when I built the engine the first time. My goal at that time was to use as many stock parts for the build as possible.

           I have driven mine with the blower unhooked, and the car runs very well. Idles @ 700 or so with a slight lope, pulls hard to 6/6500 even without the blower.Pulls harder with the blower though.

       You could sell Chuck the F cam (which is also used on the 285 hp "E" codes) and get the next size up from Mummert, or trade him for his 270 cam. I think that might be the cheapest way out for you both. Mummert has some newer, decent grinds you can try Charlie, but the F cam will work.

I do like the power band of the cam. I also like the sound of it at idle. It has a performance sound to it but it's not too aggressive. It works great for a sleeper which is what I'm going for. I am thinking about the addition of a blower or turbo in a year or two. Suspension issues need to be dealt with first, like the complete lack of handling with front and rear solid axles. It's scary sometimes! I'm not sure that I'm quite ready to part with it.

Hey Chuck- Have a look at the stuff in the link I'm sending. It really does a pretty good job of explaining how big a difference the lobe centers can make. David Vizard is a very bright guy and this is about the best simplified article on the subject I've ever seen published.

The illustration he has created concerning the "hole in the intake manifold" you get with the narrow lobe centers, shows that it could really steal some serious low down power from a supercharger outfit. 

And yes boys, I know the narrow centers really sound cool............

I don't have any experience with the "F" code cam , but as I recall, John Mummert says it's a satisfactory cam by modern standards, except a little lacking in lift..

I don't see why that wouldn't work. The F-code cam is (based on my spec card):

.456/.456, 274/274, 226/226, 112 - with 1.54 rockers.

They are pretty close.

Your static compression is probably going to be 8 or 8.5. With the blower, dynamic compression will probably be at least equivalent to 10:1. I'm getting into unfamiliar territory here. I'm sure someone knows more.

         You can get the same thing from Engle with a longer exhaust lobe. The lobe ctrs @112 are good. You can use 4-6 degrees more exhaust with a blower.

      Charlie, not sure what you have there, but Ford advertised the blower cams at 290 degrees.

I'll dig up the spec card. I thought that is what it said. I ordered the blower cam from John Mummert about 3 years ago when the repros were available. Hopefully that is what I got.
