The 56 Birds had 12 volt gauges. They should fit the 55 ok. You can use the 55 gauges with 12 volts by using the Ford voltage regulator for gauges that came on all Fords from 1957 to the 80's. Available from parts stores and probably from Ford. The only thing I am not sure about is the oil and charge idiot lights. I don't know how those will work with the voltage regulator.

Voltage regulator is only for gauges, between gauge and power supply. Those idiot lights needs 12 volt bulbs, nothing else.

a friend of mine converted his 55 ford from 6 volt to 12 volt and what we did was use the back side of 56 gauges  the electrical part and  mounted them to the 55 gauges.that way you have the orig. look
