Picked up the Nov 09 copy of Street Rodder last night at Wal Mart and found a couple of neat Y Blocks. One is a 61 2dr wagon that belongs to Don Hardy, yes the same Don Hardy race cars down in TX. Three page write up including a nice picture of the engine compartment. The other is a 58 wagon that still has the Y.

Street Rodder is a magazine I stopped looking at a while back. I have picked up several issues in the past few months. They seem to be getting tired of the same ol junk as well. I'll check this issue out.

I hear ya.. i normally only grab issues that have a tech article i might need.. i picked this one up for the traditional front end build-up but got a Y-Powered long-roof as a bonus (well and the Model A on the cover is a good one too)

Hey, guys, I haven't seen the magazine, but I did attend a GoodGuys car show in Ft. Worth, Texas in October of 2008.  I took a picture of a Y-Block powered 61 station wagon, could this be the one?  It was awesome.........

Nice job on that wagon. Noticed the neat dual chamber Master Cylinder. Anyone know what it was originally for?

Hey hows it going Charlie? And yeah you nailed it.. That's the exact same car.. must have been cool to see it in person.. In fact your engine shot of it looks almost exactly like the one in the mag..

Donald's car has Baer Brakes and they use a master cylinder designed for a 94-95 Mustang Cobra.  I think it is a 15/16 bore diameter. This is the same brakes and master cylinder I used on my sedan and t-bird.

Donald liveds here in Lubbock, TX and their shop is in Floydata.  His dad did the chassis of most of the successful Pro Stock cars in the seventies, including Bob Glidden.   They speciallize in irrigation motors and LS stuff.  Donald is a good fabricator and a true car guy.

Donald's car is really nice in person as well, and it does get driven some.  The Y-block was not the easy route by any means, but he did stick with it, and the outcome is really cool.  His mother had a '57 t-bird and the 312 shortblock was extra from it.   I helped supply the heads and missing parts to make it complete.

Suede57? I thought that was radar absorbing black.

I got a call from a guy in TX today who is building a 31 5 window w/Y-Block. Turns out he lives in Lubbock. He said he had never noticed a black 57 terrorizing the streets. I find that hard to believe.
