I went to Montgomery Motorsports Park for the Oldtimers Reunion today. I was wearing my Y blocks Forever cap and t shirt. I was cruising the pits taking a few pictures when someone came up behind me and asked what do you know about yblocks. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I turned around to answer. The man himself Hubert Platt was standing there. I told him that I was putting a "y" in a falcon. He told me that he raced a 57 ford in the early years and took me back to the trailer and gave me the grand tour of the Falcon in the background. It is Phill Bonners "Georga Peach".

Glen: I hope you two exchanged phone numbers and/or email addresses. That's a great contact. Wonder if his '57 was supercharged.

All the time trials and racing was rained out yesterday, but I am going back today, should be sunny all day. No John I didn't get his phone number but I'll see if I can get up with him today and get more info on the 57. He had a lot of the media types hanging around yesterday. By the way this is their 9th annual event but this is the first year that they have had it in Montgomery. From what I overheard yesterday they are going to have it here again next year. It would be an excellant event for a few Y blocks to show up. Not very far from Jackson Ms for the Church bros, about 700 miles to Waco, and right down I65 for John and Frank. There was more Fords there yesterday than anyother make. Several T bolts and quite a few 63/64 light weights and the usual assortment of 66/67 fairlanes and mustangs. I have pictures, if any one is interested, I'll email them to you. Got to go, the gates opened at 08:00.

Glenn. Sounds like you had a great time. Getting a personal tour by Phil had to be highlight of the day. And Thanks for sharing. And I’d also like the pics if you’ll send them to me. My contact info is at www.eatonbalancing.com . I liked your subtle hint that the event is only 700 miles from me but if you’ll forewarn me next year, I’ll see what it takes to drag something to it. This does sound like an event where several Y’s could join up in that part of the country.

OK, the rainout yesterday and threat of rain today had the car count way down, but it was a good show anyway. Yes Ted that was a not so subtle hint that it would be a doable trip for you and Randy. I was able to talk with the event coordinator, Mr Sol Stewart today and told him about the Y shoot out in Columbus. I suggested to him that some of the Y block racers might be interested if we would be welcome. I explained that most of the racers could be considered as oldtimers and would fit in nicely with his group. He was very interested (he has a 57 bird although the y block is gone now) and said that we would be most welcome. I gave him my contact info and he is going to send me details about next years event. We might even get a Y block shootout if the count was high enough. By the way they run two brackets, 1/8 and 1/4 and this year paid $2500 to win, $700 runner up and $500 to the semi's. John, Hubert Platt went back to Ga after the weather yesterday so I didn't have a chance to talk with him about the 57 he raced. Ted I'll email the pictures and Jim may event want too post them up for everone's veiwing.

If we plan it early enough so I can arrange the time off, I will be there! So, Montgomery AL 2010, then?

I will post info as I get it. Ted I tried to email the pictures, but the file is just so big that our computer and email provider want handle it, I would have to sent them one at a time. I am going to copy them to a CD and send them snail mail.

Glen. A CD with the pics will work just fine. If you’ll include your pics from the Columbus event, I’ll get Jim to add a section on the Columbus pics link page for those.
