I'm overhauling my 292 engine for a 1955 Mercury and I can't find out the correct factory paint colors for the engine and components. Can anyone help me or tell me who to ask?

I am restoring a 1956 Merc and had the same question so I did a little research, here is what I came up with...

1955 - Yellow or Cream and Tan

1956 - Gold block with Blue air cleaner and valve covers

The paint is available in spray cans from Classic Mercury ( classicmercury.com )

I couldn't stand the 56 colors so I painted mine Ford Red wit Argent Silver air cleaner and valve covers.

The 56 mercs block was gold w/blue air cleaner & valve covers when using carter carb. Argent air cleaner & valve covers when using holley carb. Stick shift 215 HP 312s got the reddish air cleaner & valve covers (holley) equipped.

I dont think John's site has any color info unless you look at the pics and try to figure it out from them.  I have been trying to find out the original color of my 58 truck 292.  It is a yellowy orangy redy color that I know is the original color but cant find a code for or a way of getting it.  I love that ford made the block such a contrasting color to the outside of the vehicle it really makes the engine jump when you open that hood.

This is the color I am talking about and you can see it is very orange but is original ford, in person it has a light yellow tint to it.
