My 56 ford only came with one set of keys which makes me really nervous....what are the options for getting copies made of the keys I have?

Check your local hardware or home repair stores, if they have blanks, they can cut new keys from your old ones.  If they don't have blanks, the T-Bird and early Ford vendors have blanks.  Local locksmiths usually offer this service too.

Local ACE store I frequent cut the FoMoCo blanks I purchased (CASCO) and brought in for free, but it took three trips to get them right, so chose someplace close.

Tee-Bird.com and Macsantiqueautoparts has repro key repro blanks..About $2-$3 each.

  

I've found it's much easier, quicker (and ultimately cheaper) to have a GOOD local locksmith cut keys. We have a local shop that's been here for years, and I've never gotten a bad cut from them. Prior to finding out about them I used to have to make at least two trips back to the "hardware" store to have keys re-cut.

Worse comes to worse complete matched ignition/door lock tumbler/keys sets are available from various venders. Very easy to change out if your original set is in marginal condition...

Might be worth considering to change old ignition tumbler BEFORE it breaks, as I had a really hard time getting mine out (button function that releases it normally had failed). Naturally, it broke while on a long/distant tour, so had to hot-wire for every start.

Just some added info on ignition keys & door locks. Old ones are often dirty inside & the keys are too. Eventually they start giving grief. Often if you use solvent, initially on the key, and insert the key repeatedly & wipe it on a clean light rag, you can clean the lock. After a few applications, possibly go to methyl hydrate to avoid flooding the ignition with solvent. I fixed the ignition on my 57 car that way. it just takes patience to do it. The ignition barely worked when I got the car.
