On a 57 car, it appears the front anti roll bar (sway bar) needs to be removed, correct? Then will the pan come off or will the engine have to be lifted at all, or the crank turned?. Thanks.

Last time I pulled mine I took the sway bar off, raised the engine & turned it to TDC. Seemed like more work than it should have been because on a 56 all you have to do is put #1 at TDC. If you look in the article tab on the home page there is a post about pulling a pan on a 57 Custom and all the guy did was put #1 at TDC. I need to pull mine again in the spring and I'm going to give that a try. If you try it, let us know.

Paul,
I pulled mine off this weekend, and the sway bar definitely had to come off.

Even though the article says he didn't pull the sway bar, I have my doubts. When I pulled mine it would only come off when I pulled the sway bar. It's such a pain in the a$$ to reinstall the sway bar.

pull the sway bar (throw in the trash), drop the pan, do whatever needs to be done, reinstall pan... buy a new stabilizer bar kit from southwest thunderbird. Installs quickly / easily and functions very well - much better car to drive now.
