so i was thinking of designing my own valve covers for my y-block but all of my parts are like 5 hours away and stashed in various storage. So i was wonderin if someone could help me out with some measurments. I need things like the height of rockers, the width to the inside of the mating surface, the width to the outside of the mating surface, the length to the inside of the mating surface, the length to the outside of the mating surface, and the position of the bolt holes. I know this is a lot to ask but if someone has a head laying around that could pull some ballpark figures for me just so i can have some guidlines and than ill fine tune it when i auctually go to build them whenever that is. Thanks for any help.

Hi   Sorry for taking so long to get these numbers out to you;  this is just a quick measure, head width, inside-4.32,  outside-4.85  , length inside-18 , outside -18.5,  bolt hole spacing-13.375,  rocker height at adj. screw 2.3...this will be taller as the push rod comes up. Hope these are enough to get you thinking. Let us know of your progress.....machined billet??? or welded up tall ones for alum. rockers ??  Barry

ok wow thanks alot those will help a lot. i would love to go machined billet but i dont wanna shell out 700 bucks for aluminum square stock. i was thinking maybe taking some aluminum square tube like quarter inch wall or 3/8 inch wall and then tig up the ends and mill ribs in them with a ball end mill leaving a section out in the middle untouched so i can mill something cool into it. not sure yet tho either that or make the top out of like quarter inch flat stock and then weld it onto an aluminum sheetmetal base.

hi   On this one , I'd recommend one of J. Mummert's cast covers(also available polished).....but here are some quick measures...17 inches long by 7.3 wide, with a gasket width area of .4 to .45.There are two narrower offsets along each side to clear the intake ports...about 7 in. wide across these. The narrowed out indents would let you remove the cover without taking at least one head off.....something to watch for on inferior, non -Mummert designed covers. The corners are about 1 in. rads and the bolt holes are approx. 3 1/8 in. from each end. Another area too watch for is the bolt hole sizes...a bit of a problem on those cheap chinese versions available Moons ago.   Barry
